ZTE Philippines achieved a 300-percent growth in its business in the country mainly due to the strong showing of its ZTE Nubia smartphones.
Gavin Lian, GM of ZTE Philippines said the notable growth was due to the continued strong showing of the company’s smartphones in the consumer segment, particularly for camera and gaming phones.
The Nubia brand enjoyed tremendous success in 2024, Lian said, noting that the product line under the Nubia brand continues to provide local consumers with very good specifications and attractive price points.
He also said the strong demand for 5G phones from local operators drove sales to skyrocket.
Local operators, he said, want to increase 5G presence, thus also increasing demand for 5G phones that are priced competitively.
Lian said in fact, the 300-percent growth is “double” of what ZTE achieved in the Philippines for 2023.
For 2025, Lian said ZTE is looking to “continue to grow” and expand in other regions in the Philippines.
Paula May Palo, ZTE Philippines public relations manager added that ZTE also enjoyed considerable success from consumers buying smartphones designed for mobile gaming. She a huge chunk of smartphone sales came from Filipino mobile gamers.

Addressing fake phones
Lian meanwhile said ZTE has observed that “copy” or fake ZTE-branded phones have been seen in some regions in the Philippines.
The executive said the fake phones are suspiciously priced way below the actual prices of Nubia phones.
In some cases, some phones are priced lower than P3,000, or even P2,000, the executive said.
Lian also said it is not just ZTE Nubia but almost all smartphone brands seem to have been copied and are now sold in some markets in the regions, particularly Visayas and Mindanao. There are even fake phones sold in some areas in Manila, the executive bared.
As of now, the proliferation of fake brands is not affecting sales.
Lian disclosed that most consumers going for these fake phones usually are attracted to the very low cost of the units.
“This is why we will soon introduce low-cost phones, priced as low as P2,899,” Lian said. He noted that demand for low-cost, but very good phones continues to rise in the Philippines. This segment—which is comprised of drivers, students, and casual users—will continue to be a major source of buyers for ZTE Nubia.
