Straits Interactive and AAP launch the Philippines’ first national AI prompt design challenge

AI Association of the Philippines (AAP)

Straits Interactive, in partnership with the Analytics and AI Association of the Philippines (AAP), is proud to launch the first-ever National AI Prompt Design Challenge in the Philippines.

This no-code competition supports the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Roadmap 2.0 (NAISR 2.0) by promoting safe and responsible innovation in Generative AI among professionals and students.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural challenge in Singapore, this initiative aims to introduce more Filipinos to the art of prompt engineering — the foundation behind powerful Gen AI tools that can automate tasks, extract insights, and solve real-world problems across industries like education, law, marketing, and training.

No coding? No problem.

Unlike traditional tech competitions, this challenge is designed for non-coders — professionals, educators, students, and creatives — who want to explore the possibilities of AI without needing a programming background.

“This prompt design challenge isn’t just for data scientists or engineers — it’s for people with deep domain knowledge who can guide Large Language Models (LLMs) to build practical, ethical AI assistants,” said Kevin Shepherdson, CEO and Founder of Straits Interactive. “Our goal is to democratize Gen AI by empowering everyday professionals to innovate responsibly and inclusively.”

Real-world impact, real skills

Ronald Soh, a business owner and past winner in Singapore’s Open Category, shared how the competition changed his perspective. “I was amazed at how quickly we could build in-house IT solutions that saved time and cost. With the right guidance from the bootcamp, anyone can do it with a little time and effort,” said Soh, who led his team in building a tech support app for SMEs in Singapore.

Aligned with the Philippines’ National AI Strategy

The challenge supports the government’s vision of making the Philippines a center of excellence in AI research and development. This vision is reflected in initiatives like the Department of Trade and Industry’s Center for AI Research (CAIR) and the launch of NAISR 2.0.

How the challenge works

Participants will kick things off with a 3-hour bootcamp covering prompt design best practices, ethical AI use, and data security. They’ll then apply their new skills in a hands-on challenge to develop practical Gen AI-powered tools and apps. Top teams will win cash prizes and gain industry recognition.

This challenge welcomes participants from all backgrounds — whether you’re a business professional looking to innovate, an educator designing AI-driven learning tools, a legal expert exploring AI for compliance, or a student eager to gain future-ready skills.

Registration now open

Registration runs from March 28 to May 25, 2025, with the competition scheduled for June 17–20, 2025. Venue partners include the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Angeles University Foundation (AUF), and Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna.
