VITRO, the data center arm of PLDT and a subsidiary of ePLDT, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nokia to jointly develop AI-driven data center solutions for the Philippine market.

The partnership aims to strengthen network security, scalability, and efficiency to support the country’s digital transformation.

The agreement combines VITRO’s world-class data center infrastructure with Nokia’s expertise in advanced network technologies to develop solutions tailored for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, including generative AI (GenAI) training and inference.

The collaboration will also explore new technology solutions and commercial models to differentiate VITRO in an increasingly competitive data center landscape.

“We are excited to collaborate with Nokia to drive AI adoption in the Philippines,” said Victor Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT and VITRO. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to delivering secure, innovative data center solutions that empower businesses in the AI era.”

As part of the initiative, VITRO is conducting multiple proof-of-concept (PoC) trials with Nokia, including tests of Quantum-Safe Networking (QSN). This solution is designed to enhance VITRO’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) by using encryption technologies resistant to quantum computing threats—ensuring data confidentiality and integrity for customers facing increasingly complex cybersecurity risks.

In addition, VITRO plans to integrate Nokia’s next-generation networking technologies into its DCI design and operations. These include:

Data center fabric with event-driven automation (EDA)

Data center gateway routers featuring AnySec encryption

AI-supported operations (AI-Ops)

Quantum-safe IP/optical transport technologies

Together, these innovations will enable a more scalable, secure, and automated data center environment—optimized for cloud computing, AI workloads, and mission-critical applications.

“Nokia is committed to supporting the digital transformation of enterprises in the Philippines, and we believe that our partnership with VITRO will play a significant role in achieving this goal,” said Xulei Sang, senior vice president and head of network infrastructure for Nokia Asia-Pacific.

The MoU signing was witnessed by key executives from both companies, including Gary Ignacio, chief commercial officer of VITRO, and Anthony Valdez, country manager of Nokia Philippines.
