Xinyx Design, one of Southeast Asia’s largest fabless IC design houses, officially launched LABS by Xinyx on May 9, 2025, at Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM). LABS is the Philippines’ first flexible, premium learning platform dedicated to integrated circuit (IC) design and microelectronics.
The launch was attended by Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon, CDM President Dr. Teresita Fortuna, DTI-BOI Director Corieh Dichosa, TESDA Deputy Director General Nelly Dillera, and representatives from the Private Sector Advisory Council, Asian Development Bank, and several academic institutions offering or exploring IC design programs.

Muntinlupa is fast emerging as a hub for microelectronics education and innovation. With 13 microelectronics companies operating in the city, it offers a rich environment for collaboration between academia and industry. Colegio de Muntinlupa plays a key role by equipping aspiring engineers with hands-on training in its industry-grade laboratories, helping the city position itself as a talent center for the semiconductor sector.

LABS by Xinyx supplements the traditional BS Electronics Engineering curriculum and opens new opportunities for senior high school students, college undergraduates, STEM graduates, educators, and industry professionals. The platform offers hands-on training, expert mentorship, and globally aligned coursework, delivered through online, in-person, or hybrid formats. This flexibility allows learners from diverse backgrounds to build real-world skills tailored to industry needs.
“LABS by Xinyx is the Philippines’ first premium, flexible platform focused on IC design and microelectronics. It’s designed to close the skills gap that limits the growth of our semiconductor industry,” said Charade Avondo, President of Xinyx Design.

The launch of LABS directly aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 2024 directive prioritizing the development of the semiconductor and electronics sector. Despite increasing global demand, the country continues to face a shortage of IC design talent due to outdated curricula and limited access to specialized training.
Avondo emphasized the potential of Filipino engineers, saying, “Filipino engineers are already trusted leaders in R&D teams abroad. It’s time we bring that level of innovation home.”

IC design is a vital, though often overlooked, segment of the global semiconductor value chain. It underpins advances in AI, aerospace, healthcare, renewable energy, automotive technology, and defense. By steering young engineers toward this high-potential field, LABS by Xinyx aims to position the Philippines as a key player in design-led semiconductor innovation—not just manufacturing.
