New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) is investigating a reported overcharging incident involving a metered taxi that allegedly charged more than ₱1,200 for a short trip between Terminals 3 and 2 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Initial findings confirmed that the taxi involved was not among the accredited transport providers authorized to pick up passengers at NAIA. Metered taxis are permitted only for drop-offs and are not allowed to solicit or accept passengers at the terminals.
NNIC said it is currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the driver and determine how the unauthorized pickup occurred. The Department of Transportation has directed both the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to conduct a formal investigation.
To prevent such incidents, NNIC reiterated that only accredited Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS), such as Grab and Joyride Super Taxi, are authorized to pick up passengers from designated hubs. Free shuttle buses are also available every 15 minutes for inter-terminal transfers.
The agency said it is exploring additional enforcement measures, including tighter curbside monitoring and enhanced coordination with transport authorities, to protect passenger safety and prevent unauthorized operations.
