The Philippine tourism industry generated ₱2.35 trillion in value in 2024, contributing 8.9% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as reported by the state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA).

This figure marked an 11.2% increase from the ₱2.12 trillion recorded in 2023 under the Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA), which measures the value added by tourism-related industries to the economy.

Employment in the tourism sector also expanded, with 6.75 million Filipinos working in tourism-related jobs in 2024 — a 6.1% rise from 6.37 million in 2023. This accounts for 13.8% of total employment nationwide.

The PSA’s Philippine Tourism Satellite Account (PTSA) showed that domestic tourism expenditure grew by 16.4%, rising to ₱3.16 trillion from ₱2.71 trillion in 2023. These expenses include visitor spending on lodging, food services, transport, travel agencies, entertainment, and shopping.

Meanwhile, inbound tourism expenditure posted a modest growth of 0.4%, increasing to ₱699.98 billion in 2024 from ₱697.49 billion the previous year. Outbound tourism expenditure — or the spending of Filipinos traveling abroad — rose sharply by 37.5% to ₱345.68 billion.
