Marcos urges Filipinos to embrace AI as a handy, everyday tool

In a recent video blog, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. encouraged Filipinos to make the most out of artificial intelligence (AI), saying the more you use it, the better it gets at helping you.

“AI learns. The more you use it, the smarter its answers become,” he said.

Marcos gave some simple ideas on how Filipinos can start using AI right away — like asking for directions, finding out what’s happening in a certain area, or even getting help writing speeches.

The vlog included a fun AI-generated clip where the President suddenly stood up, threw on a black leather jacket, and spun dramatically as the office walls melted away to reveal a rock concert stage — showing a creative side of AI tech.

But Marcos also warned against the dark side of AI. “Unfortunately, bad actors use AI for scams, fake news, and spreading misinformation, which hurts many of us,” he said.

This push to get Filipinos comfortable with AI fits into the larger government plan to boost digitalization—a move that includes better internet access nationwide and launching smart apps for public services.

Just last May, the government rolled out “TunAI,” an AI-powered tool in social media that helps spot fake news, verify facts, and connect users to trustworthy sources.

Looking ahead, the Department of Information and Communications Technology is working on a local AI engine that can help with everything from info-gathering to crime reporting—and it’ll even understand local dialects.
